Il y a 10 ans, BadGirls était diffusée pour la première fois au Royaume Uni. Helen James a récemment réalisé un entretien avec Simone Lahbib pour parler de l'impact de la relation Helen-Nikki (et d'un possible retour) dix ans après ses débuts modestes.

Helen James: Etes vous fière d'avoir fait partie de quelque chose de révolutionnaire ?
Simone Lahbib: Très fière. Très fière. Je pense qu'ils ont fait un excellent travail d'écriture. Je pense que l'une des raisons pour laquelle les femmes spécialement, ont réagi à BadGirls est que cette série explore un grand nombre de questionnements de femmes, et vous savez, beaucoup de questionnements de femmes qui étaient plutôt tabou. Je pense que l'histoire d'Helen et Nikki fut la plus longue relation lesbienne traitée à la télévision.

Helen James: Tout le monde attendait. Tout le monde voulait qu'elles soient ensemble. C'était quelque chose de tout à fait émotionnel. Etiez-vous nerveuse de tourner cette scène finale, sachant que tout le monde était désireux de vous voir ensemble?
Simone Lahbib: Non. Non, c'était merveilleux de faire cette scène parce que j'imaginais, comme le téléspectateur, que vous désiriez une fin heureuse pour ces deux personnages. Vous vouliez juste tellement ça. J'étais vraiment heureuse que ça se termine comme ça. C'était en partie pour celà que j'avais décidé de tourner la troisième saison... Quand on a discuté avec la production et qu'ils nous ont dit ça, vous savais, c'était leur plan, j'ai su que je devais mener celà à bien.

Helen James: Avez vous un côté autoritaire ?
Simone Lahbib: J'ai un côté autoritaire.

Helen James: S'ils voulaient reprendre la série 10 ans plus tard, le feriez-vous ?
Simone Lahbib: On m'a demandé plusieurs fois celà au fil des ans, et je ne serais certainement pas opposée à le faire. Si nous nous asseyions et qu'on y réfléchit vraiment. Parce qu'il y a tant d'espoir à ce sujet, tu n'as pas envie de te tromper. Donc, si elle était bien conçue et que Mandana soit heureuse de le faire ainsi, alors oui, peut-être.

Helen James: Are you proud of being a part of something so groundbreaking?
Simone Lahbib: Very proud. Very proud. I think they did a great job in the writing. I think one of the reasons women, especially, respond to Bad Girls is that they really explored a lot of women's issues, and you know, a lot of women's issues that were slightly taboo. I think the Helen and Nikki storyline was the longest-explored lesbian relationship on TV.

Helen James: Everyone was waiting. Everyone wanted [Helen and Nikki] to be together. It was quite an emotional thing. Was it nervous for you, doing that final scene, knowing everyone was wanting to see you together?
Simone Lahbib: No. No, it was wonderful to do that scene because I imagined, as a viewer, that you wanted a happy ending for these two people. You just wanted that so much. I was really pleased that they had that in the end. It was partly why I decided to go with the third series ... When we spoke together with Shed [Productions] and they said that, you know, that was there plan, I knew I had to see it through.

Helen James: Do you have a bossy side, then?
Simone Lahbib: I do have a bossy side.

Helen James: If they wanted to bring it back, would you do another series, ten years later?
Simone Lahbib: Um, I've been asked that a few times over the years, and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to doing that. You know, if we sat down and really thought it through. The things is, because there's so much expectation about that, you wouldn't want to get it wrong. So, if it was well-devised and Mandana was happy to do it as well, then yeah, possibly.
